THE EVENT

POCOLA, OK (May 19th, 2018) – Point racing continued for all classes this past Saturday night at the mighty Tri-State Speedway. Low 90-degree temperatures greeted the fans on Saturday night as they arrived at the track. Even though some other tracks had to cancel or postpone due to rains during the last part of the week, the track in Pocola, OK received no rain and the track prep crew had a wide and fast track ready for the drivers and fans.

The pre-race ceremonies started at 8:10 PM with the invocation followed by the national anthem as two cars presented the nation’s flag around the speedway.

Heat races were determined by the driver’s draw at sign in. The classes advanced to their features heads up with an invert redraw.

At intermission, 50/50 money was given away, as well as a free $100 gift card from Philpot’s Car Care Center that was given to the oldest male service member in attendance to honor Armed Forces Day. Everyone had a chance to grab themselves some food items from the newly reconfigured concession along with an ice-cold Pepsi product. They also grabbed TSS T-shirts and tornado relief concert shirts from the T-short booth and registered for the race-ready Super Stock that will be given away at the end of the season.

TOP THREE

The first race on the track after intermission was for the Factory Stock A Feature. Wesley Bourne (5 – Cameron, OK) took the checkers first over Andrew Bohanan (33 – Stigler, OK) and Kyle Hamby (7 – Hackett, AR), who moves into the top position in the point standings. Also thanks to Sonny “the tire guy” for adding a $100 bonus to a random finishing position that went to Drex Johnson (2).

Up next was the Out Pace USRA B-Mod A Feature where Daniel Tarkington (2 – Checotah, OK) crossed the finish line first ahead of JR Owen (79 – Pocola, OK) and Lonny Flanagan (7 – Rudy, AR). Dean Green (28 – Siloam Springs, AR) is at the top of the point standings by a 27-point margin.

The Super Stock A Feature rolled onto the track next. Danny Womack (3 - Bixby, OK) took the win over Hank Long (40 - Stilwell, OK) and Ty Evans (5E – Fort Smith, AR). In the point standings, Gean Davlin (26 – Shady Point, OK), who was last year’s runner up, is leading by 13 points.

The USRA Modifieds took to the high banks last for A Feature. Brent Holman (17 – Rogers, AR) crossed the line first. George Martin (16 – Fort Smith, AR) took home second place and Kayden Menasco (49 – Muldrow, OK) in third place. Holman, by only 16 points, is the point leader going into next weekend’s point racing in Saturday night.

Blaise Leatherman (94L – Muskogee, OK) returned with his NexGen car and claimed the trophy. There is still time to get racing this season with your own NexGen car. The NexGen class is an entry-level, low-cost, no racing experience class. You can find the simple rules on our website, at www.Tri-StateSpeedway.com, under Driver Info and then Rules.
