POCOLA, OK (August 8TH, 2015) – After last weekend’s slight respite, Mother Nature seemed to be want at least one more weekend of the century numbers on the thermometer at race time. The air temperature at race time was an even 100 degrees with a “humiture”, or feels like temperature, of 109 degrees. A pretty good southerly breeze helped things somewhat until the sun dropped below the horizon in Turn 3 and dropped temps into the lower 90’s.
The night kicked off, as always, with the trophy presentation to the previous race’s (from August 1ST, 2015) A Feature winners with interviews and photo taking on the pass through in front of the grandstands after the pre-race ceremonies of the invocation and the national anthem.
Heat racing action got underway at 8:25 PM after a little extra track prep was undertaken to try and keep this season’s new clay from getting dusty. Intermission was underway by 10 PM which gave everyone a chance to stretch their legs and get some of the concession food, try some of the world famous Menasco BBQ and grab a big funnel cake for dessert.
While the intermission was underway, the monthly kid’s bicycle races were held on the front straight and the two free bicycles were given away to one lucky boy and girl, just for coming out to the races. Only one more monthly bicycle race night is scheduled for 2015 so be sure to make sure you check our schedule by clicking on the schedile link for the date.
