THE EVENT
POCOLA, OK (June 16th, 2018) – Saturday night saw not only the return of the Ca$h Money SDS Late Models, but two drivers take home their first trophies of the season at the mighty Tri-State Speedway. Two others took home their second of the season, with one of those winning twice in two different classes. Mother Nature upped her game this week with mid to upper 90-degree temperatures without much rain at the speedway. As come to be expected, the track prep crew had the track ready to go at race time, with no packing required from the drivers. The track was fast, wide and smooth all night.
The pre-race ceremonies started at 8:02 PM with the invocation followed by the national anthem as the top ten point cars from the Malvern Bank Ca$h Money SDS Late Models presented the nation’s flag around the speedway.
Heat races were determined by the driver’s draw at sign in. The classes advanced to their features heads up with an invert redraw that determined how many cars would be realigned. The late model top starting spots were determined by a draw from those drivers during intermission.
At intermission, 50/50 money was given away as everyone had a chance to grab themselves some food items from the concessions along with an ice-cold Pepsi product as previous week’s winners received their trophies and had their photos taken in front of the grandstands. Thanks to sponsors of the Ca$h Money Late Model series, two bicycles were given away to one girl and one boy at intermission.
TOP THREE
There were no NexGen drivers on hand Saturday night, but there is still time to get racing this season with your own NexGen car. The NexGen class is an entry-level, low-cost, no racing experience class. You can find the simple rules on our website, at www.Tri-StateSpeedway.com, under Driver Info and then Rules.
The first race on the track after intermission was for the Ca$h Money Late Models B Feature that saw Steve Holzkamper (5 – Gentry, AR) take the win. He and eight other cars transferred to the back of the A Feature.
The first A Feature on the track was for the Factory Stocks. In a great race with a side-by-side finish that had to be determined by the new electronic scoring, Kyle Hamby (7 – Hackett, AR) took his second win of the season by mere inches over Justin Johnson (55 – Van Buren, AR). Marshall Penson (1P – Van Buren, AR) finished in third. Hamby sits atop the point standings with a 52 point advantage over Penson.
Up next was the Out Pace USRA B-Mod A Feature where Brian Williams (4$ - Fayetteville, AR) headed to victory lane for the second time this season. Steve Holzkamper (5 – Gentry, AR) and Brandon Wilson (4B – Fort Smith, AR) finished second and third. Daniel Tarkington (2 – Checotah, OK) extended his point lead for the class with a 39-pont advantage.
The Malvern Bank Ca$h Money SDS Late Models were up next for their A Feature. In only his second late model race, 15-year-old Hayden Ross (66 – Muskogee, OK) took home his first win. Eddie Martin (51 – Stilwell, OK) crossed the line in second ahead of Cole Wells (98 – Cassville, MO).
The Super Stock A Feature rolled onto the track next. Dylan Davlin (26D – Shady Point, OK) took home his first win of the season over Grant Davis (1 - Muldrow, OK). Ty Evans (5E – Fort Smith, AR) finished in third. Gean Davlin (26 – Shady Point, OK) keeps his position at the top of the point standings with a slimmer 10-point lead.
The USRA Modifieds took to the high banks last for their A Feature. Brian Williams (26 - Fayetteville, AR) picked up his second win of the night over Brent Holman (17 - Rogers, AR) and Jeremy Vaughn (8 – Pocola, OK) in third place. George Martin (15 – Fort Smith, AR) retains the point lead but saw it shrink to just 15 points ahead of second.
