POCOLA, OK (September 5TH, 2015) – As the racing season clock winds closer to the end, the struggles that every track in our region of the country seem to facing from week to week are still ever present. Mother Nature decided that it was still “summer” in September with temperatures in the mid to low 90’s at race time and after a week of mid 90’s temps, promoter Dan King and his track prep crew had the track ready to go at the scheduled hot lap time of 7:30 PM.
The night kicked off with the trophy presentations for the previous week’s A feature winners (from August 29TH, 2015) with interviews, by Michelle Walker, and photo taking on the pass through in front of the grandstands. This was followed with the invocation and the previous week’s winners parade lap presenting the nation’s colors during the National Anthem.
Heat racing action for the 89 cars on hand got underway at 8:15 PM. Intermission gave everyone a chance to stretch their legs and get some of the concession food, try some of the world famous Menasco BBQ and grab a big funnel cake for dessert. Several race fans and kids were also the lucky recipients of track giveaways, including free T-Shirts and free tickets, during the intermission.
Also during intermission, the last bicycle races of the season were held. Two bicycles, one each for a girl and boy, were also given away for kids who came out to the track. The Pure Stock Racing Association (PSRA) also delivered quite a few Frisbees by “air mail” to the fans in the stands which had lucky numbers on them for prizes that were awarded throughout the feature racing.
The Factory/I Stock A Feature hit the track first and saw Jay Anderson (36 - Springdale, AR) claim his second win of the season ahead of Shannon Cox (75 – Greenwood, AR) in second, for the second week in a row, and Kyle Woody (77 – Crowder, OK) in third.
In the IMCA Sport Mod A Feature, Ken McCarty (1 - Roger, AR) took home win number seven of the season ahead of Cody Rongey (7 1- Booneville, AR), who finished second for the second week in row, as Robert Southerland (26H – Bokoshe, OK ) crossed the line in third.
The IMCA Modified A Feature hit the track next and saw Tate Cole (89 – Muskogee, OK) take home the trophy for his 8TH win of the season ahead of last week’s winner Jake Davis (7 – Hackett, AR) and Johnny Bone, Jr. (12 – Pea Ridge, AR).
The Pure Stock A Feature saw Andrew Bohanan (51) take home back to back wins for his third win of 2015 while Wesley Bourne (5 – Cameron, OK), came home in second ahead of Tyler Chambers (T13 – Welling, OK).
The TSS Modified A feature was up next with Melvin Pilcher (47 - Springdale, AR) taking the win for the first time this season in a last lap pass over Randy Henson (10H – Alma, AR) who finished in second and Kreg Dobson (4 ) in third.
The Super Stock A Feature hit the track last and saw Neil Johnston (17 – Fort Smith, AR) track down and pick up win number eight, of the season, over Daniel Tarkington (5 - Checotah, OK) and a fast closing Randy Moses, Sr. Aka “Big Moe” (75M- Muskogee, OK) in third.
