Sewell Wins OCRS as Scroggins, Cole and Williams Win Mods

Rob Nugent, Track Announcer/Social Media

THE EVENT

POCOLA, OK (April 23RD, 2016) – The fourth regular night of weekly racing saw the stock bodied classes taking the night off while the Ameri-Flex OCRS Sprint Cars joined the modified classes for an Open Wheel Action night. Mother Nature played very nice this week even with the multiple inches of rain predicted for most of the week. Not too much precipitation actually fell and the track prep crew had everything ready to go without much track packing needed.

The pre-race ceremonies started at 6:15 PM with the invocation and a parade lap with the nation’s colors during the National Anthem.

First up on the agenda for the race program was heat racing for the IMCA Sport Mods, IMCA Modifieds, USRA Modifieds and the OCRS Sprint Cars.

The intermission was next and gave everyone a chance to make a pit stop at the restrooms and get some of the concession food, including some world famous Menasco BBQ Ribs and homemade potato salad or a stuffed baked potato and an ice cold Coca-Cola soft drink to wash it down with.

There was also $85 in 50/50 funds given away at intermission, along with two winners of free bicycles from Menasco Racing Enterprises. Plus, there were two bicycle race winners who picked up trophies for their effort. Make sure to watch for the dates and times for the May bicycle races when one parent will get in free with each child who enters the bike races!

TOP THREE

The IMCA Sport Mod A Feature was up first and saw Aaron Scroggins (1/4 – Neosho, MO) take home the win over Steve Little (97S – Ada, OK) and Caden Ellis (84 – Wagoner, OK).

On track next was the IMCA Modifieds where Tate Cole (89 – Fort Gibson, OK) took home the win again as a hard charging William Gould (60 – Calera, OK) and Johnny Bone, Jr. (12 – Pea Ridge, AR) battled it out for second and third.

The USRA Modified A Feature were out third and Brian Williams (26 – Fayetteville, AR) was not going to be denied the victory as George Martin (15 – Fort Smith, AR) gave chase. Tate Cole (89 – Fort Gibson, OK) finished in third place.

The last feature on the track for the Open Wheel Action night was the Ameri-Flex Oil Capital Racing Series (OCRS) Sprint Cars for their 25 lap A Feature. At the end, Alex Sewell (8 – Broken Arrow, OK) captured his second win in a row in the series while Zach Chappell (50Z – Talala, OK) crossed the finish line in second ahead of Johnny “Hot Rod” Kent (5$ - Tulsa, OK).

Complete A Feature results for the April 23RD races are listed below. All race results, including heats and qualifying features, are available on our website at www.Tri-StateSpeedway.com. Current track point standings are available there, as well.
