THE EVENT
POCOLA, OK (September 30th, 2017) – The fourth and final round of the $10,000 September to Remember four-week championship event is now complete with 94 cars in five classes taking on the famous high banks in Pocola, OK. With temps in the mid-80’s at 7 PM, it was a lot more tolerable for the full house than in previous weeks.
With the move of the start time back an hour earlier, the pre-race ceremonies started at 7:00 PM with the invocation and national anthem as several late models and other cars carried the American flag during its playing.
Heat race lineups for all four classes competing in the September to Remember event, plus the late models, were determined by the driver’s draw at sign in each night. The classes advanced to their features via their finish in their heats. Plus, the last heat winner in each class drew a number for the number of rows to invert for their A Feature.
At intermission, everyone had a chance to grab themselves some food items from the concessions as race winners from the previous week were on hand to get their trophies and photos taken, along with a quick interview. Fans also stopped by the new Fujibayashi Photography shop to pick up some photos of their favorite drivers. The 50/50 drawing was also held at intermission and several gift certificates were given away to Ed Walker’s Drive In, Miss Anna’s, Calico County and Discount Tire to general admission ticket holders.
TOP THREE
The Factory Stock A Feature was on the track first and saw Cody Jones (UFO – Fort Smith, AR) claim his first win of the season, improving on his second-place finish last week. Andrew Bohanan (51 – Stigler, OK) crossed the line in second place over Jacob Cox (99 - Pocola, OK).
Up next was the USRA B-Mod A Feature where Daniel Tarkington (2 – Checotah, OK) improved on last week’s second place finish to go to Victory Lane for the third time this season. Dean Green (28 – Siloam Springs, AR) took home second place over Dustin’s Dream teammate, Steve Butler (40 – Siloam Springs, AR).
The Super Stock A Feature hit the track next. Danny Womack (3 - Bixby, OK) once again had his car dialed in and was able to capture his third win of the season and the September To Remember series over Ray Phipps (L7 - Pocola, OK). Brian Parker (210 – Owasso, OK) crossed the finish line in third.
The USRA Modifieds took to the high banks next for their A Feature. Brian Williams (26 – Fayetteville, AR) crossed the line first for his second win of the season this week as Tate Cole (89 – Muskogee, OK) finished in second over Kyle Ledford (75 – Greenwood, AR).
The Late Models were the last cars on the track for their A Feature that saw Shannon Scott (4 – Henryetta, OK) take come the $1,000 paycheck over a closing Brandon Wilson (00 – Fort Smith, AR). Jack Davis (7D – Hackett, AR) finished in third.
