Scroggins Wins Fourth of the Season as Anderson and Gemmill Win Their First
After Mother Nature rounded out the month of May with 20” of rain at the track and causing a cancellation of last two weekends of racing, 70 racers were on hand to take on the famous high banks for another round of point racing. The pre-race activities began a little late at 7:10 PM with the temperature around 90 degrees and a ton of humidity. The 350 dump truck loads of new clay continues to get better each week. Even with the hot temperatures, after the surface dust blew off and a quick sprinkle from the water truck, the track was wide and smooth throughout the night’s races.
The first order of business was to honor the last races (May 16th) A Feature winners with their trophies, interviews and photo taking on the pass through in front of the grandstands after the pre-race ceremonies of the invocation and the national anthem.
Heat racing action in all five classes hit the track first taking the race fans in attendance to intermission at around 8:45 PM. The intermission break gave everyone a chance to stretch their legs and get some of the awesome concession stand food with the great Menasco BBQ.
The first A Feature action was for the Pure Stocks with Wesley Bourne (5 - Cameron OK) taking the win while Junior Grim (16 – Pocola, OK) and Chris Perkins (88 – Rudy, AR) rounded out the top three.
The Factory/I Stock A Feature saw Jay Anderson (36 – Springdale, AR) take home the winner’s money for the first time in 2015 as Chris Patterson (48 – Muldrow, OK) finished second with Kyle Woody (77 – Crowder, OK) in third.
The IMCA Modified A Feature hit the track next with Van Gemmill (21 - Ponca City, OK) taking home his first win of the season as Kent Bright (3B – Sand Springs, OK) finished in second, while Anthony Reeves (1ST - Mulberry, AR) crossed the finish line in third.
In the Super Stock A Feature of 20 cars, Neil Johnston (17 – Fort Smith, AR) would come out on top for the third time this season, with Randy Moses, II (75 – Muskogee, OK) in second and josh Essary (4E – Bella Vista, AR) in third.
The last A Feature on the track was the IMCA Sport Mods. Once again the two cars to beat seem to be Ken McCarty (1 – Rogers, AR) and Aaron Scroggins (1/4 – Neosho, MO). Unlike the last great battle between the two the last time we raced, Scroggins was able to withstand the challenges for his fourth win of the season. McCarty finished in second place ahead of Gerry Vaughn (77 - Greenwood, AR).
The first of two 100 lap Enduro races was held after the race program. After almost 50 minutes and only one red flag, Greg Dobbs (Booneville, AR) was the only car on the lead lap and picked up the $2,000 paycheck while Tim Van Gotten (Chanute, KS) finished in second with Scott Stuart (Chanute, KS) in third.
