Slader Wins 4th while McCarty, Ragsdale, Knowles & Gould win 1st
After Mother Nature disrupted our racing activities again this season with ten inches of rain and causing a cancellation of May 2nd’s racing, 67 racers returned this past weekend to take on the famous high banks for another night of point racing. The pre-race activities began at 6:45 PM with temperatures in the mid 80’s and a slight breeze from the south. Even with the huge amounts of rain, the track held it up really well thanks to the extra effort put forth by the track personnel that still produced three and four wide racing throughout the night’s action.
The first order of business was to honor the last races (May 2nd) A Feature winners with their trophies, interviews and photo taking on the pass through in front of the grandstands after the pre-race ceremonies of the invocation and the national anthem.
Heat racing action took to the track afterwards taking the grandstand crowd to intermission at around 8:15 PM. The intermission break, not only gave everyone a chance to stretch their legs and get some of the awesome concession stand food, but also gave the kids on hand their second chance of the season at the bicycle races. There are three more bicycle races planned for the 2015 season in June, August and September. The kids were also treated to a chance to win a free boy’s and girl’s bike, compliments of Menasco Racing Enterprises, just for attending the night’s races.
The first A Feature action was for the Pure Stocks and Dennis Slader (19 – Muskogee, OK) got back to his winning ways with his fourth win of the season while Chris Perkins (88 – Rudy, AR) and Tyler Chambers (T13 – Welling, OK) rounded out the top three.
The Factory/I Stock A Feature saw Dalton Ragsdale (22 – Muskogee, OK) take home the winner’s money for the first time in 2015 as Ron Grover (17 - Pocola, OK) finished second with Joshua Vaughn (77 – Pocola, OK) in third.
The IMCA Modified A Feature hit the track next with 19 cars and saw William Gould (60 – Calera, OK) taking home his first win of the season as Michael Ables (61 – Caddo, OK) finished in second, while Brandon Wilson (00 – Fort Smith, AR) crossed the finish line in third.
In the Super Stock A Feature of 16 cars, Robert Knowles (44K- Talihina, OK) and Neil Johnston (17 – Fort Smith, AR) had a very competitive race with the lead changing several times the last few laps between the two. Knowles would come out on top, for the first time this season, with Johnston, last week’s winner, in second with Corey Lawrence (99 – Plainview, AR) in third.
The last A Feature on the track was the IMCA Sport Mods. Ken McCarty (1 – Rogers, AR) had to regain the lead several times due to cautions and restarts, but was able to take home his first win of the season over Aaron Scroggins (1/4 – Neosho, MO) in second place ahead of 14 year old Kayden Menasco (49 – McAlester, OK).
Complete race results, including heats, are available on our website at www.Tri-StateSpeedway.com. Current point standings are available there, as well.
Racing is scheduled to continue on May 23rd with another night of point racing in Pocola, OK for all regular classes plus the Pure Stocks will be racing for added money for the top five finishers presented by the Pure Stock Racing Association (PSRA) and Central Wholesale Vacuums. After the regular racing, we will let the mechanics who turn the wrenches, see if they can turn the wheels of their cars in Mechanic’s Races.
Pit gates will open at 4 PM with the grandstands opening at 5 PM. Pre-race ceremonies will begin at 6:45 PM with the green flag set to drop on the racing action at 7 PM.
