THE EVENT
POCOLA, OK (September 23rd, 2017) – Round three of the $10,000 September to Remember four-week championship event is now complete with 65 cars in four classes taking on the famous high banks in Pocola, OK. With temps in the mid-90’s at 7 PM, it was a warm evening, but was more tolerable after the sun set over turns three and four. A big thanks goes out to Tonto Construction for their dirt work on the track.
With the move of the start time back an hour earlier, the pre-race ceremonies started at 7:15 PM with four Dustin’s Dream cars on the front straight. Information was provided to the fans about Dustin’s Dream before the invocation and the playing of the National Anthem. The four cars of Steve Butler (40), Dean Green (28), Steve Holzkamper (5) and Jason Payton (6) from Dustin’s Dream carried the American Flag during the anthem.
Heat race lineups for all four classes competing in the September to Remember event were determined by the driver’s draw at sign in each night. The classes advanced to their features via their finish in their heats. Plus, the last heat winner in each class drew a number for the number of rows to invert for the A Feature.
At intermission, everyone had a chance to grab themselves some of the great food items from the concessions as race winners from the previous week were on hand to get their trophies and photos taken, along with a quick interview. Fans also stopped by the new Fujibayashi Photography shop to pick up some photos of their favorite drivers. The 50/50 drawing was also held at intermission and several gift certificates were given away to Ed Walker’s Drive In, Miss Anna’s, Calico County and Discount Tire to non-50/50 winners and to general admission ticket holders.
