THE EVENT

POCOLA, OK (May 26thand 27th, 2018) – Memorial Day Weekend racing at the mighty Tri-State Speedway saw point racing in all classes on Saturday night and added money for all classes on Sunday night. Mid 90-degree temperatures greeted the fans on both nights. As what has become the norm under new track owners, the track was ready to race at the advertised hot lap time and produced a four-wide and fast track for the drivers and fans.

The pre-race ceremonies started just before 8:00 PM on both nights. Saturday night the invocation was followed by the national anthem as cars presented the nation’s flag around the speedway. On Sunday night, respect was paid to our fallen veterans after the invocation with Amazing Grace, a 21-gun salute and Taps being played over the PA system. Gabrielle Gore followed with a live singing of our National Anthem.

Heat races were determined by the driver’s draw at sign in. The classes advanced to their features heads up on Saturday night with an invert redraw. On Sunday night, the Factory Stocks and the Out Pace USRA B-Mods drew for their invert, but the A Feature line ups for the Super Stocks and the USRA Modifieds were determined by a pole dash in each class that was held first after intermission. Several drivers did well and advanced their starting positions by defeating their competitors who qualified better than them from their heats. Bonus money was also paid to drivers for each round they won.

At intermission, 50/50 money was given away on Saturday night. On Sunday night, a free $100 gift card from Philpot’s Car Care Center that was given to the oldest female service member in attendance to honor Memorial Day.
